Waldeinsamkeit (get the look)

NYMPH/ATTIRE is back. after a few weeks away from blogging i have to say i missed it alot! but the break was just something i needed but now i'm looking forward to post tons of new posts i already have so many ideas and things i want to share with you but enough about my holiday lets dive right into my new get the look post have fun! 


before this post really gets started i think i owe you guys an explanation of the word WALDEINSAMKEIT so you will have a better understanding of what this get the look post is all about. 

the word waldeinsamkeit is a motiv which is used to descirbe the natures purity and raw beauty. it stands for the peace one finds putting their lifes in to the hands of the wild like in middle ages when a monk lived out in the woods just byhimself to overcome the fast life outside of the forest. (gosh i hope you guys understand this it's really not that easy for me to explain it in english but who doesn't love a challenge haha). during the literary age of romantic the term waldeinsamkeit was very popular as it was a perfect expression of the forest as a quiet place without all the negativty of modern socitey where the sensitive poets could just live a simple, modest but joyfull life. therefore waldeinsamkeit is found in a bunch of works which was written during that time and it's also known in the english litrature as for example in RALPH EMERSONS poem waldeinsamkeit. 

however i choosed this expression for my get the look post as it stands for the nature and being one with the woods. i thought this could be something very pure and velvet and perfect to be interpreted by fashion so we're going to take a hike and were going to look super awsome ... oh and i don't mean this literally just imagine a photoshoot for LULA MAGAZINE and the main theme is being out alone in the woods (aka waldeisamkeit). 

i asume that you already watched this movie (INTO THE WILD) but in case you haven't you should emidiatly stop reading this post and watch it you can continue reading when you're finish. it's the perfect piece of art for this post. another movie which isn't only showing the most wonderful pictures of a majestic forest but also tells the story of a even more wonderful friendship and it is called THE CHILD AND THE FOX . i had such a happy feeling while i watched it and after it the only thing i wanted to do is get out and wander through a forest just like the one the movie takes place in.

ok you can put the tramping boots back in your medolls wardrobe as you can see from the moodboard and the pictures above i'm going more for the forest fariy, white-magic-witch kind of fashion and there is no need for super survival outfits this time. of course there should be some sweaters and thick coats but we also can use some elegan elie saab like dresses. we wanne be one with nature and nature is beautiful, wild and full of suprises  words which therefore should also be included in the fashion i'm going to show you now.

i consider those above looks as good examples to transform different forest expressions or fantasys into fashion. for a good waldeinsamkeits look you should use natural colors and fabrics just like i did in the "hiker" and "tree" looks. those two looks are dominated by green colors  and i also used suede, jeans and of course cotton those are all natural fabrics which of course fits perfectly into the topic. you can also choose a look which shows all the mystical things hiding underneath the branches and leafs like we heard so often about in all the legends. for a look focusing on those legends, storys and myths it's ok to take a step back from the natural colors but it is important to keep it pale and soft that means less neon colors. beneath i have some more clothes fitting perfectly into a waldeinsamkeits look.

i think everybody is able to create looks like this it's not very complicated unless you have understand the meaning of being out in the wild, being alone and happy because it seems like you're the only persone in the whole wide world. its always the same if you trust a certain feeling and use this as an inspiration for your looks you always going to look awsome.

Sailor (get the look)

ok first i owe you a big apology i promised to upload this post one week ago. i hope you show some mercy i just couldn't finish it and i would never upload a unfinished post or a post in which i haven't put all my heart and energy but no excuses anymore lets start with the post.

a sailor ... a man dedicated to the sea, full of bravery. sailors are part of so many tales and legends, giving lots of creative people even more inspiration.  the heroic man sailing the mighty sea, discovering even the most dangerous parts of our blue planet. maybe its the fact that all living things started to exisit in the ocean what makes us so atteched to it and those brave men (nower days being on borad of a ship is pretty save but a few centuries ago it was really dangerous and life-threatening) who followed and still following this call are special. to honor this precious profession dressing up in a sailor shirt and put on a captain's hat wouldn't really be enough would it? because that's just a uniform but we want to wear the great ocean itself (not only dress like a old man who once guided his ship across the ocean).

this is a scene from the 2011 released movie "oceans" i think it will set you into the right mood for this post. i can only recommend this movie being a wonderful motionpicture of the ocean. 

before i will go one with the inspiration part of this post i would like to tell you a little story which explains how i build this post and the outfits and clothes that will be featured in it.

once a well known women (which wasn't that well known at the time this little story took place) went to the shore and when she walked across the beach right after the sun was rising she saw a group of sailors wearing striped shirts which during the times of this events was a common seaman unifrom however the woman saw those men and somehow got inspired. maybe it was the moment which let her saw those shirts as something which represented freedom or the strenght of the men wearing those shirts. however she traveld back home and used the shirts as part of her very own fashion reveloution ... of course i'm talking about COCO CHANEL and those of you who saw the movie "coco befor chanel" maybe recognized this story as a scene from the movie. those events changed fashion itself. what i'm trying to say is coco chanel took these shirts and made them part of her art and this is what we are ging to do too. we take the spirit of the seaman and use it for our fashion ... i hope you understand what i mean.

the moodboard is focused on the creatures living in the sea and the myths serrounding them. remeber what i said about the spirit we want to transform into fashion.

i created looks focusing not only on a sailor but also the most important things around him the sea and the creatures living in it, it was fun creating the fish outfit as it allowed me to be a bit crazy.

of course if you want to create a sailor-look there are basic items which are necessary (like the striped shirt or the colors blue, red and gold) but besides these basics it's always good to leave the save path and explore what lays besides. try to be crearive for example my captain outfit, i choose to use the striped shirt and a captain's hat but i thought of using a different color (black and silver) to make my captain look a bit more edgy. below i gatherd some more clothes which could be helpful to make your sailor look work, you don't have to use these exact clothes just look through your wordrobe and see if you can find things similar to those below.

fish are living in the sea and some of them are shining in the brightest colors. the sea bears creatures which the human mind can't even think of. how beautifl those patterns and colors can look outside of the deep blue sea was shown at the release day of PROENZA SCHOULER's spring ready to wear 2010 collection which still is one of my faveourites. the designer duo used those extrem colors which mother nature has to offer for their spring collection so that even the "boring" humans can wear them and look just as edenic as a clown fish in a great coral reef.
i gatherd almost all of this proenza schouler collection which was released at starplaza and would like to show it to you, i think it perfectly fits into this post and if you have some of these pieces in your closet you can also use them  for creating a alternative sailor look.

i think we reached the end of our jurney. what is left to say at the end of this post is that the sailor-look seems to be easy at first glance but if you don't want to look like a foolish and drunk carnival idiot it's better to put some effort and thought into this and at the end you will not only look like a proud person which sailed the seven seas but you will feel like the sea itself aswell ... uh that sounded heroic and i think its the best way to close this post.

The Virgin Suicides (get the look)

shortly after i started this blog i did a post about the movie MARIE ANTOINETTE directed by francis for coppolas daughter SOFIA COPPOLA and now i just recognized that she started shooting a new movie (which is proably about the events infolving the BLING RING GANG) and the spring is back i thought i take a closer look at another sofia coppola movie: THE VIRGIN SUICIDES. because of its really outstanding setdesign its a perfect choice for my beloved "get the look" cloumn.

the story takes place during the 1970s in a typical american suburb and the fashion used in the movie is build up around these facts plus we can see a great influnce of soft patterns and pastel colors it almost looks like a moving picture taken with an polariod land camera. it seems like everything is wrapped up in a white curtain. focusing on the clothes the lisbon girls are wearing one can come to the conclusion that these playful dresses are like a conflict between an innocent childhood and the desire of knowing what is beyond this boring little world they have to live in.

looking at the above pictures of the lisbon girls, trip fontain and cecilia lisbon i hope you can get a better impression of the clothes worn in the movie (the best impression you'll get watching it of course).

ok now a short summary: the movie (which is based on the same-named book by JEFFREY EUGENIDES) is about the lisbons who have five gorgeous daughters one more beautiful the the next and the neighbor boys (one of these boys is the narrator) who are secretly obsessed with the girls. but the life of the lisbon girls is not really free because of their strongly religious mother. the narrator explains to the audience what is happening during the last weeks of the life of the lisbon girls.  

after you get all this information about the movie and the lisbon girls lets get back to stardoll and see how we can use these impressions for a soft and elegant doll outfit. i would love to show you some examples.

if you want to create an outfit similar to the ones i created keep in mind that the movie takes place in the 1970's, you may inform yourself a bit about what kind of things the people did wear back than. furthermore think about the color scheme which is used, considering that you should choose pale and or pastel colors. the lisbon girls often wearing night clothes so you should search for dresses which have this kind of sleepy look for example a white and long slightly see through dress. as you can see watching the movie the room of the girls is full with little things like sticker, postcards, plastic jewellery and other stuff they collect to make their golden cage look prettier. to transport this important detail into your outfit you can use alot of bracelets or brooches like i did in the picture below.

these are some more clothes you can use to style your medoll like a real lisbon girl. what i like about the clothes in the movie is that they make you feel really feminin but not in a naiv or silly way but more in a sad and elegant way like wearable melancholia, melancholic is by the way also the best way to describe this movie as i saw it the first time it jumped right into my heart and there it stays down to the present day. i think its important to style your doll not only like the latest trends sometimes you should use a look which has a deeper sense but fun is still the most important thing of all i hope you have lots of it while dressing up your doll following some of these tips.

Teen Witch (get the look)

 this style is different because i don't even know if you could call it a style like vintage, indie, hipster and so on, it's just a name for all this grunge revival, messy, trash couture young (fashion interested) girls like to wear. the best example for a real teen witch is TAVI GEVINSON, when i was at her age i wish i had a friend like her (i would missed some horrible fashion mistakes i did) teelling me how boring casting bands are and how cool courtney love and twin peaks are.

here we have some more SD clothes you can use for your personal teen witch outfit, the most important thinks to get your outfit done are clothes how look innocent and prissy BUT make sure you have a little bit of a lolita in it too, use see-through fabrics and really short skirts those should be combined with some tights. black and pastel colors are good to use too and necklaces which have a touch of your past (that means they should look like if a cute little girl could also wear them) oh and be a bit creative with your make up. 

 

 

 

some inspiring pictures for my readers (i could post thousands of those pale elegant photos), the biggest insperation for this look i would recommend the films the virgin suicides and ghost world, generation X, the band hole, fashion houses like rodarte and meadham kirchhoff. its a playfull fashion  with sex in it not easy to style but so fucking marvellous.

after watching this impressive collection i hope you are as fascintated by all these clothes as i am and you may understand what i was trying to explain (still i'm not really good in this) and you will try to create an outfit in honor to tavi and all those other teen girls how try to not be afraid of being different and being sexy in an innocent way ...

Ghost World (get the look)

a few year ago i watched the film GHOST WORLD i totally forgot about it but thanks the best tiny little blogger in the world tavi i was remembered and after watching it again i thought that the style shown in the movie  is really why not see if i can put it on mine and your medoll ? but befor the typical information about my source of afflatus:

the film is based on the eponymous comic book "ghost world " the book and the script for the film where made by DANIEL CLOWES, terry Zwigoff dircted the film. you can (if you want to) categorize the film as an coming-off-age movie made in 2001, it tells the story of enid. together with her best friend she lives the life of a misfit, they finshed school and now a new chapter starts but enid try to find her way and its hard for her to accept that her world is turning, but watch it yourself i'm not so good in summing up films ...
