Leather

when i first started as a member of SD there where hardly any leather items in the plaza. a fact which really annoyed me back than becauce i've always been a sucker for leathery objects. not leather in general but the black rock chick leather. i'm a fan of post punk, garage punk and edgy rock n roll looks and in order to create those looks, leather (or pleather) is very important. don't get me wrong i'm not talking about biker gang leather pants or vests, its the elegant smooth leather items i'm fascinated by.

CHRISTOPHER KANE / fall winter ready to wear 2010

  all photos taken from style.com

i would strongly recommend clicking on the label names, the websites are really nicely done and you can watch the latest fashion shows plus get some informations about the fashion houses.

so why am i jabbering about leather you may think. it's because i recently went for a shopping spree at starplaza, i missed the last two LE collections and i desperately needed new clothes for my doll, and found a suprisingly large amount of pleather and leather clothes. inspired by this pleasant suprise i thought why not make a new countdown post and show my readers some of my favourite 10 leathery objects from my medolls wardrobe.

cross leather skirt by saint laurent tribute (vintage)

why? the ruffles makes it a feminin piece and the zipper makes it sexy but not cheap, you can easily combine this with a white shirt and some black heels and  have a perfectly nice outfit.

slim black pleather dress by msw shop (vintage)

why? i'm a fan of shape, and this dress has this really graphical shape but still looks smooth and not to edgy.

hotbuys top

why? its inspired by a piece chloe sevigny designed for openign ceremony and of course that's why i bought it but it also looks rad because of the pattern.

pleather top by elle (vintage)

why? it has this really eccentric armer look and it fits really tight so you can underline your medolls figure.

dress inspired by christopher kane by archive  (vintage)

why? christopher kane is really one of my most favourite designers, and this dress is another good example for his brilliant work, the combination of leather and lace has just a wonderful and special effect.

floral pleather jacket by archive

why? also inspired by fall winter ready to wear 2010 fall collection, this jacket has a very romantic touch because of the floral patches. you can use it for espacially grunge inspired spring looks.

pleather platforms by bonjour bizou + heavy weight black plattforms

why? i know those shoes have quite a reputation, as many other users i really adore my pair (which bought from the plaza not from the bazaar, lucky me). i always combine them with the black fallen angel plattforms to make them look a bit more edgy.

midnight lurex pants by ppq

why? normaly i don't like leather pants but this one has a nice shiny fabric, it has a skinny cut but not to tight so you can use it for more casual looks.

hot buys cheap monday bag

why? its part of the first cheap monday wave which arrived at the plaza and i was very exited about it. i love cheap monday it's a wonderful brand. the bag goes with many different looks and this is exactly what a good bag is suppused to.

hot buys vest by bonjour bizou (vintage)

why? this one of the oldest items in my medolls wardrobe i used it at least a 100 times.

so that was my leathery countdown i hope you guys enjoyed it. make sure to visit the plaza and buy some of those newest leather / pleather pieces. oh and the reason i haven't put those new things in the countdown is because i haven't had the time to create as many looks with those new things as i did with the  older garments i mentioned in the countdown. so maybe in a couple of months there will be a new countdown (haha).

Street Smart 1#

like the legendary TOMMY TON (the don of street style photography) i grabed my camera and took a little walk around dollywood to see if i could catch some great looking fashionistas.

this is just a little new segment to keep the blog a bit more lively and updated and to see what trends have found there way into our little online fashion community.  there will be no comments from me. just some inspirational looks made by talented SD users.

Witchcraft /get the look/

so i already did a get the look called teenwitch but i thought about taking a second look at "witchfshion". i named this get the look post witchcraft because the look i'm going to show you is mainly inspired by the popular horror series AMERICAN HORROR STORY especially the third season AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN. in this season the show is focusing on a modern witch coven and all its mysterious secrets. i'm kind of easily scared by horror movies that's why i simply don't watch them. but i'm some how facinated by witches and all those morbid things around them. so i pulled myself together and start watching this season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

immediately i was impressed by the visiual look of the show and i love the fashion in it. the clothes worn by the modern witches are exaclty how i would dress up a witch living in our society. we see lots of black and lace, silk and ridiculously cool umbrellas. but bevore i keep talking about it feel free to watch the trailer below. try to catch up with the mood so you can enjoy this post even more.

now you may have a better understanding about what i'm talking. the interesting thing about this kind of fashion is that you can be dramatic and simple at the same time. for example you can wear a simple silk dress (black of course) but put on a dark lipstick and suddenly your whole look becomes mysterious and elegant but also uneven, a fashion style i adore. be beautiful but be broken, be smooth but be rough. that is something only woman can do so we should do it!

MOODBOARDS

INSPIRATION

and while i did my visual research for this post i also stumpled upon this "old" movie with one of my alltime favourite actress during the 90s, WINONA RYDER and one of my ever all time favourite actor of all time DANIEL DAY LEWIS.

the movie i'm refering to is called THE CRUCIBLE. it's about the salem witch trails which are also really interesting so if you haven't heard about them you can easily inform yourself here

but now after this much real life input lets see how we can transfer those ideas of a modern witch coven inspiret look into dollywood fashion.

when it comes to use of color everything is about black. a good modern witch look is a look dominated by black. you can use other colors but only to create a decent contrast.

searching through my medolls wardrobe i found lots of things which would fit perfectly for a modern witch coven look. maybe that's because my medoll closet is dominated mainly by black fabrics, sheer gowns, maxi skirts and overzied sweaters. so i think those a the central pieces for this look. you can easily start with some black basics (stop by the BASIC shop, the new collection has a black and white theme) without spending to much of your hard earned stardollars but i strongly recommend a really elegant and long couture dress (like the SONIA RYKIEL dress you can see in the picture above). it's necessary to be  at least a little dramatic and you can't be dramatic without a long, sexy, mysteriously looking gown.

accessories are always the key to an indivudal look, if your whole outfit is suppost to tell a story, the accessories are always the dirty little detail everybody want's to hear about. without those your story would be boring wouldn't it? you can dare yourself to some excentrical pieces like the LE fur hat, keep things simple but excting using for example the SONIA RYKIEL hold-up socks or choose the romantic version and put some dark flowers on your head. whatever you do try to use black and silver objects.

and to try all the things i just said / written about, i went ahead an styled some outfits. sorry for the hairstyle of my doll (i kind of think it's a bit to rock n roll for this kind of look) but i'm currently not a superstar and i don't wanne change my medolls face.

this look is inspired by the AMERICAN HORROR STORY character zoe benson (TAISSA FARMIGA). her style is in a way simple but also very elegant and you can also see that after all she still is a teenager.

this look is another example of how i would dress a young teenage witch but one which is a bit rebellious when it comes to fashion. i wanted to create something more rough and rock n roll. (sorry for the really bad quality of this picture)

this look is a bit more dramatic, i layered alot of clothers here to play with the shape of my medolls "body", it kind of reminds me of a the iconic looks worn by mary kate and ashley olsen

so i think there's nothing left to say here. now it's up to you and your creativity. i hope you can use some of this to create a wonderful witch coven look inspired outfit. if you still have problems picturing the complete look i strongly recommend watching the series but if you're a person which is easily disturbed by horror content of any form you may stick to google and see what looks from the show you can find on the internet.

Saint Laurent ! (UPDATE)

you guys it's so freaking amzing ... SAINT LAURENT FW 2013 RTW COLLECTION will find it's way into our little starplaza. i could cry like a 14 year old girl at a justin bieber concert, sorry for using this awful piece of shit as an example (meaning bieber not the poor 14 year old gir) but it comes close to the excitment i'm feeling regarding the arrival of the third tribute store during this holiday season: saint laurent. you may think why is she this crazy about it and why saint laurent hasen't she forgot a word there. no i haven't since (you fashionistas may already know) HEDI SLIMANE (took over the creative lead) the YVES form YVES SAINT LAURENT got delted (i know it has been a total freak out about it in the fashion world) and i'm crazy because this collection is just bonkers (positive). when i first clicked through this collection i nearly collapsed infront of my laptop. i haven't seen any grunge inspired collection this awsome since the one marc jacobs did in 1992. but take a look at it yourself (if you haven't already stumbeld upon it).

Just a few pieces from a wonderful collection, if you're interested please take a minute to check out the complete collection at style.com. yes i know those clothes are way to expensive for most of us but this collection also is a huge inspiration for a individual edgy look.

UPDATE

the tribute has now arrived at the store. since i'm a huge SAINT LAURENT fan and also really love HEDI SLIMANES work (it's insane i adore him like crazy) i bought ALOT (!!!).

this tribute isn't bad, i even dare myself to say it's good but (sorry) if you compare the tribute collection with the one it's based on i have to admit it is kind of dissapointing. there are many pieces which SD recreated poorly and some essentials weren't even in the store to beginn with. (the flower printed dresses or the leather jackets). sd had the chance to recreate a wonderful collection and only used 50 %. however there are still many many many things which will be very usefull to make your medolls wardrobe even more edgy and unique. as a collector i always try to pick the things which i think will have the most value in the SD future. if you want to shop the same way you need to buy as much as you can and if you haven't enough sd try to buy elegant and simple things because those are most likely to be very popular in the future. my personal highlight from this collection are the bags (all of them are simply amazing) and the YSL punk boots (3th pictur, black boots). if you want to save money try to concentrate on the accescorize.

at the end this store was a nice surprise for me and i was glad to be able to buy this many things from it but SD please try to stick at least a little bit more to the original clothes otherwise why call those stores "tributes".
